First Day of Spring and HypnoBirthing

It’s the first day of Spring, but where is the warmth? I went to work today with a light jacket. Thinking I did not need a scarf, I headed out the door. Immediately stepping foot outside, my neck was cold from the chilly breeze. Being that I am 24-weeks pregnant and have to walk up four flights of steps to get to my apartment, I was like whaaaatever. I’ve come too far to go back. Fortunately, the day did warm up and a scarf was not necessary.

My ride on the subway went smoothly, in regards to my body not over-heating or my stomach deciding to vomit my breakfast. On the other hand, my train did go local once hitting Manhattan, which is supposed to go express the whole way. I was 15-minutes late getting to work. Ugh.

Recently on my rides on the subway, I have been reading pregnancy books on my Kindle. I have been going back and forth between What You Need To Know When You’re Expecting: The Complete Pregnancy Guide For Moms and Dads by Dr. Jyothi Shenoy and Priscilla Gavinson and the fourth addition of HypnoBirthing: The Mongan Method by Marie F. Mongan, M.Ed., M. Hy. The former provides basic information to prepare you on what to expect throughout your pregnancy, while the latter prepares you mentally for a natural approach to a safe, easier, and more comfortable birthing experience.

Yes, I want to have my child naturally, meaning without hospital drugs and fear. Although I am only 31% through the book, I have learned so much already that can help me create a calmer and more peaceful mind for when my labor day does come. I don’t want to start preaching, but if you are interested in creating a more relaxed environment that can help control fear while you are in labor, and even prior to your labor day, I recommend you read the book. Side note: I especially love the chapter titled Birthing Tips I Learned from My Cat.

My lifestyle already sort of intersects with the method of HypnoBirthing. Before I became pregnant, I did yoga after my workouts. One of the best feelings in the world is when I am going through my yoga routine and I feel a since of relief and accomplishment about the intense workout I just completed. At the end of each routine, when I am sitting cross-legged and have my eyes closed, I often feel a blanket of tranquility covering my body. In this respect, I believe I can reach this feeling while having my baby. Although I cannot physically do yoga while pregnant (I have tried three times already, and at the end of each day that I did yoga, I vomited), I can still reach that mind frame quite easily if I listen to classical music at bedtime or if I am reading a good book. With high hopes, I am going to apply Mongan’s HypnoBirthing Method to my pregnancy experience.
