Cort and I try our best to prepare our food at home. Since he loves to cook and makes tasty meals, making food is fun and easy. Well, it is easy for him now to make food for us because I am no longer a vegetarian during my pregnancy. I was a vegetarian a little over a year before a became pregnant, and I tried and failed at maintaining that lifestyle during my first trimester. I craved fish when I became pregnant, which is a difficult craving to manage while pregnant because of the mercury content in fish. To avoid giving my unborn baby mercury poisoning, I also incorporated poultry in my pregnancy diet, which was suggested by my doctor.
Tonight, Cort is making one of my favorite meals, baked tilapia with alfredo sauce and spinach. On the side, he is making penne noodles in alfredo sauce. Doesn’t that sound amazing or what? As long as I don’t consume over 20 oz (2 to 3 servings) of fish weekly, there is little to no risk of mercury poisoning to the baby. Also, the benefits of eating fish while pregnant outweigh the risks. Fish is loaded with omega-3 fatty acids, which are essential to the development of the brain and nervous system of a fetus.
After eating dinner, I feel satisfied… for only a couple of hours. Once those hours pass by, I get a hunger sensation, which I cannot satisfy from eating or drinking water. I am starting to believe that this feeling is associated with being tired. This singles that it’s my bedtime. Does this happen to anyone else, and if it does, please let me know what you do to relieve this sensation.
