Upper Back Pain

For the past week or so, I have been having upper back pain, especially at night when I try to sleep. The pain is mostly on my right side around my shoulder blade. The same pain is on my left side but not as intense. My boyfriend gives a great massage to relieve the pain, but less than 24-hours later, the pain is back. Throughout the day, I make sure that my posture is correct, and I sleep on my side, mainly left side, with two pillows under my right leg. This worked when I first started having the pain, but now it feels as though there is even more pressure and pain when I lay this way. Any suggestions on what to do to relieve this sort of pain?

I will be going straight to Target after I get off of work today to buy a birthing ball/exercise ball. Sitting on this is said to help relieve back pain. Since the ball is constantly moving a little bit, this forces your body to find a balanced position that makes you aware of your posture, thus relieving back pain. Also, your weight sinks into the ball, which relieves pressure on your spin. The less pressure, the better! I plan to sit on the birthing ball whenever I start to feel discomfort in my back when I am at home. Within minutes, sitting in the dinner table chair makes my upper back ache. Sometimes even sitting on the couch can be uncomfortable. I hope the birthing ball is the solution to my back pain.
