The Power of Proper Posture

When my back, especially my upper back, started hurting due to my pregnant belly in my second trimester, I was so uncomfortable and wanted a back massage all the time from Cort. I probably have said this in one of my previous posts, but he does give a great back rub that will have my back pain-free for a good 24-hours. Not wanting him to give me a back massage every 24-hours, I decided to lessen the pain myself.

I researched ways to alleviate back pain during pregnancy and found that heating pads and massages were recommended. I wanted something that will prevent the pain or make it less severe. I typed "how to avoid back pain during pregnancy" in the search engine and found that being aware of your posture can help.

After finding out this information, I have been aware of how I sit, walk, and sleep. I make use of the back of chairs while sitting, pressing my back flat against it. I do the same when I am riding the subway. While walking, I make sure my back is straight and not hunched over. While sleeping at night, or taking a much-needed nap, I lay of my left side and straighten my back with my arms above my head. Sometimes I'll press my back up against Cort's at night to straighten up.

I have felt an improvement in my back pain after several weeks of correcting my posture. My upper back hurt so badly in the past that I had to sleep sitting up on the couch at night instead of lying down in bed. Now that I pay attention to my posture, my back pain has improved about 75%. Oh, what a relief it is!

Much Love,

El
